Can you get travelers diarrhea from washing your bum?
I’ll be traveling in Africa for 7 weeks and and am wondering if you can get travelers diarrhea from using a bidet or rinsing off your anus in the shower? Similarly, can you get it from brushing your teeth from faucet water?

Yes, you get TD from drinking or rinsing teeth/mouth with local water. Your system isn’t acclimated to the organisms in the local tap water. Other things to avoid are ice (made with local water), foods/drinks purchased from local vendors or in questionable restaurants, raw fruits & vegetables unless peeled first. And dairy products. Safe beverages include bottled carbonated beverages, hot tea or coffee, beer, wine, and water boiled or appropriately treated with iodine or chlorine. Use bottled water for brushing teeth.
